The at-home cafe is located in the Don Quijote store in the area Akihabara. It is on the 5th floor. This cafe is a Maid Cafe. So the ladies were all dressed in a maids uniform. Normally you would think why does a girl go to that place. Well let me tell you it is not only for men but it is for everyone. Most customers are men but also women are going there now. I was very curious what it exactly was, so I went there. Must say at first I felt a bit awkward but you just need to let it go and just go with the vibe.
Gladly some of the ladies can speak a little bit English so you don’t get lost in translation.
When you go in the cafe you first get a warm welcome from one of the maid. She short explained what the experience is. Then you’ll enter the cafe/restaurant. When someone enters they ring the bell and all the maids are greeting you. Then she takes you to your table. I also get a princess license and I think the men will get a prince license.
You can choose from different menu’s. Some are included to take a picture with one of the maid. You even get to choose which maid you want to go on the picture with. I just chose the girl who has been helping me. The menu’s are also in English.
When the food is being served they draw a picture. In my case the drew a cat on my omelet. But first before eating you had to say “miu miu chuuuuu”. That stands for sending love to my food but it is with everything you get, so drinks, food, desserts you had to say that with your maid.
Normally you don’t get to take pictures inside but maybe they liked me or something because I had permission to take a picture from my food and one of the maid who spook good English made a picture from me. But I had to act cute and that was really out of my comfort zone ;). Kinda felt awkward but I just went with the flow.
Also there was a performance from the ladies, they sang a song. For me it sounded a bit childish but I think for Japan it is normal? I also had my own heart shape light to cheer them on. I couldn’t understand what they were singing but they had lots of fun!
After that I was ready to go. It is also table payment so don’t forget to bring cash. Even when you leave they ring the bell and they all say goodbye.
Just get out of your comfort zone and visit one of the Maid Cafe in Akihabara. It is really one you need to experience it yourself. Need to say I had lots of fun!
