Located in Yokohama in the neighborhood Yamate lies a beautiful park “Sankeien Garden”. It is a traditional Japanese-style garden which opened in 1906.
To enter the park you have to buy a ticket. The price for 1 adult is 900 Yen (around € 5,-) and you will get a map of the park. For more information about the prices you can check their website Sankeien.
But even before you enter the park you can enjoy the sight. The surroundings are very beautiful.
Sankeien contains many historical houses and buildings. There is also a three storied pagoda located high up a hill deep inside the garden. So be prepared to walk many steps.
The park is amazing to see. As you stroll through the park you will find bamboo groves, bridges, streams, small waterfalls and ponds.
It also depends which season you will visit this park. Every season you will get a different impression. In the spring season March or early April you will see the cherry blossoms (sakura) full in bloom. I went in the summer, July and August there is a pond inside the entrance and normally you will see many Japanese pink lotus blossoms, but I think I came there to soon (2nd week from July). The changing of the color of the leaves you will see it in late autumn. Last but not least in winter, mid to late February, plum blossoms start to bloom.
So every season will be a treat for the eye.
All that green was so peaceful, as you can see I had to add many pictures ;). So if you are in Yokohama or planning to go and you want to escape the city life, I recommend this amazing spot.
