A short stay in Okayama

A short stay in Okayama

From Kyoto Station to Okayama! Let’s go! Okayama is not that far from Kyoto but because it is also vacation time for the locals it was quite busy. It ended up taking around 3 to 4 hours to get there.

So I stayed in a hostel hotel again. It was the same concept as in Okinawa but a bit less luxurious. That day I just chilled a bit because from the traveling I was a bit tired. Just explored the area and finding out where I will be going next.

So I came across Okayama Castle and found out that it was a thirty minute walk from my hotel. I could also go with the bus but I thought It will be nice to walk. I ended up very hot and sweaty and so thirsty. Thankfully there are vending machines everywhere. By the castle I just sat in the shadows for a moment I just needed to cool down. But it wasn’t so bad to just sit there. It was also not that busy so It was very peaceful there. The castle itself is so big and impressive, so beautiful to see. I just walked around the castle, there is so much history to find out.

Nearby the castle, there is the Korakuen Gardens, one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan. The Korakuen Gardens are typically Japanese, filled with ponds, streams, walking paths and a hill that serves as a looking point. You could easily spend hours there and that’s exactly what I did :). Also because the temperature was so hot, there were frequent announcement reminding people to stay in de shade and just stay hydrated. I drank so much water that day but I was so sweating a lot it looked like I took a shower.

In the late afternoon I decided to take the bus back because I didn’t had the energy any more to walk in the heat for another half an hour.

It was just a short stay in Okayama and I actually missed one day because I wasn’t feeling that good. But a good night of sleep fixed everything.

Fit and full of energy I traveled again to my next destination. But that’s another story to tell. See you again in my next travel blog!
