Hi everyone, so I am finally in Japan. Friday 28th of June was the day.
The flight took about 13 hours, but it felt longer. At first my plane was an hour delayed and everyone was already on board. So we all had to wait in the plane. I flew with KLM and I must say I am not that tall but even for me the seats were very small.
The plane landed around 10:30hr local time. So I had the whole day to try to stay awake.
I took the bus to Tokyo Station. That is also the cheapest way to travel from Narita Airport to Tokyo Station. A bus ticket cost 1300 yen, thats around € 7,50. It only took 1 hour to get there.
From Tokyo Station is a 20 minute walk to my hotel. I am staying in the APA Hotel Ningyocheoki Kita. The first couple of days I was pretty jet lagged.
My days in Tokyo were great. For the first 2 days the weather was a bit rainy but the temperature was warm, around 30 degrees. I already did en saw many things. I will sum up some highlights.
Walking trough the area of Ginza there is Hibiya Park. It is a place to escape the busy city streets. A great place to relax, especially when you got a jet lag. You will be amazed of the beautiful scenery with lots of green and a bit of history. Also next to this park you can find The Imperial Palace.
Because I am a fan of retro games and want to see all kind of things about manga and anime I took the metro to Akihabara. This is really an area for all the die hard manga/anime fans! Also everything about electronics you can find there. It is also well known for many Maid Cafes. I also went to one and yes I was curious about it and no it is nog only for man. Perhaps in the past is was more specific for man but now it is for everyone. I went to the at-home cafe. This is located in the Don Qujiote store on the 5th floor. I will tell you more about it in another post and going to link it at Global Asian Spots. To be continued ;).
If you like videogames like me, especially the retro kind, you really need to go to “Super Potato”, You can find all kind of retro games from the first Super Mario, PacMan, Zelda etc. Also you can buy the vintage console and console games.
Last year I skipped this but I am glad that I visit the Senso-ji Temple now. It is located in Asakusa area. So it was a hot day that day, Many people are walking with an umbrella to protect them from the sun. In the Netherlands we only use this for the rain. We are happy when we can get a little colour from the sun. A bit of culture difference there ;). But this temple was amazing to see. The architecture was so great. I can’t believe how they build this in the past.
Shibuya Crossing, I visited at night. It’s crazy to see so many people at one spot. It really is the busiest crossing. Best to see it when it’s dark so you can be amazed from all the city lights!
I also went to the Tokyo Dome, it is the homebase from the baseball team the Yumiuri Giants. Around the stadium there are plenty things to do. You can go shopping, ride a rollercoaster, eat some delicious food and many more things to see and do.
For now this was Tokyo, I am going to leave Tokyo and travel to Fuji Kawaguchiko. Properly in September I will be back in Tokyo.
So I’ll meet you next time in Fuji Kawaguchiko :D! Bye for now!
