So the first week flew by. Still got another week to spend here. Unfortunately there is a typhoon right now. So crazy weather with rain, strong wind, then some dry periods and it is still around 30 degrees. It looks like that Sunday the sun will be coming back. So because of this I just chilled around Naha and writing some travel tips for this website at my favorite Starbucks spot located in the central main street.

In the mean time I met some people from Australia, Canada and USA. This week there are more tourist here then the past week. I think that de summer vacation has begun. It is nice to meet new people and also it is nice to talk with someone who can speak English. The Japanese people are very nice but it is so difficult to communicate with them. Actually I talked with one Japanese guy who can speak a little bit English. He worked at a cafe/bar (Silver) and he gave me some tips where you can go out at night.  Because of the typhoon it wasn’t recommended. Also this place served the best pork ribs I ever tasted. I highly recommend this. I went to that place three times.

So I booked a bar hopping tour. It is a tour that took about 3,5 hours. You will experience the local food and drinks. I really recommend this tour so you know more about some local things. Also it is a good tour to meet people. I will write more about it in my travel tip which you can find under Global Asian Spots. After reading this blog go check out this travel tip 😉

Because I wanted to go more up north I came a cross a tour that travels up north. I wanted to see the forest. More up north there is so much more nature. This tour was a bit more expensive but it is worth it, also lunch is included. The lunch consist out fresh sashimi which was very good if you like fish and I love eating fish :). While enjoying lunch the surroundings are beautiful.

We traveled to Cape Hedo, that is all the way to the north of the island. Here you are standing at a cliff and you can see the sea and the waves clashing at the rocks. It was so breathtaking. The water was very clear and the color, beautiful bleu/green almost turquoise.

Daisekinzan Park is really a park you need to see. This park is big and the view is so amazing. There are four paths you can walk. Unfortunately we only had one hour there so I get to took almost 3 paths. There are crazy rock formations which has been created by lava. Also when you reach the top the view is so stunning! While reaching the top it started to rain very hard. But I must say, it was a really warm day so the rain was very refreshing. I didn’t mind it at all. The only thing is you had to be careful because it was very slippery. After it stopped raining I dried up quickly because it was so warm.

A well known bird in Okinawa is the Okinawa Rail. This bird only lives in Okinawa and is an endangered species. At the Okinawa Rail Ecology Center we could see just one of this species. The tour guide told us if you can see one in the wild it would bring you luck because it is rare to see them. Too bad that I did not see one in the wild.

The days in Okinawa flew by. Because I stayed for al longer time it almost felt like home. I could almost be a local there :p. But I already booked a ticket back to the mainland so I had to go. Fortunately, I was able to spend my last night with Hic and Mark. I met these two gentlemen here and they are super nice. Mark I met in the hostel/hotel (I was a little bid a tour guide for him) and Hic is the tour guide from when I went bar hopping. It was great to spend my last evening with them. We had some drinks and had a lot of fun. It was a perfect ending to Okinawa.

So from Okinawa I will be traveling further in to Japan. I must admit, I’m a little bit sad to leave Okinawa but also excited to continue traveling. I will meet you again next time. Hope you liked my travels so far!
