From Fujikawaguchiko I decided to go to Yokohama. My first plan was to go to Nikko. I already booked a hotel there but it makes more sense to go there when I will be traveling up north.
So i went from the nature back to the city. I traveled by train. Had to change trains 2x and the journey took about 3 hours. Also it was a really hot day, I think it was 36 degrees.
This time I’m staying at the “Hotel Unizo”. This is a 10 minute walk from Yokohama Station.
On my way there is saw that there is a Don Quijote next to my hotel. I immediately thought ohw no 😮 … this store is so fun to shop. I went there in Tokyo. If you want to know and see more about it you can check my reel on our Instagram ;).
From all the traveling and walking I was so tired that I slept for many hours. It felt like 10 hours but it was probably less. For the people at home who knows me, they know that I actually don’t sleep that long. But anyways, that felt good. After a good night of rest I had a good breakfast and walked to the Pokémon Center Yokohama. It was located in a shopping mall on the 8th floor. When you are in Japan you just need to visit a Pokémon Center. Last year I went to see one in Kyoto. This one is a bit smaller but still fun to visit. Also there were many cute anime stores .
To escape the city life and it is also worth to see, I went to the Sankeien Garden in Yamate. I went by train, that took 9 minutes and from Yamate Station to Sankeien Garden it is 32 minutes walk. But be aware it is nog an easy walk. Just felt like a workout. Finally I arrived there very hot and sweaty :p
To get in to the park I had to buy a ticket. It costs 900 yen that is around € 5,-. Inside the park I was amazed from all the beauty. It is really a good place to escape the city life. The park is very big but there are so many places where you can sit and enjoy the view, you can wander there for hours and that is what I did :). You can read more about it and see more pictures in my travel tip.
The next couple of days it is raining here. I had to change my plans. But for rainy days it is a good day to do my laundry in my hotel. So happy with my google translate app because all the instructions were in Japanese. But thanks to the app it translate perfectly. My go to place here when it rains is Starbucks. Always ordering a hot latte caramel macchiato. Sitting at a table with my laptop listening to my Spotify and working on my blogs/travel-tips.
Although the rain I really wanted to go to Yokohama Chukagai also known as Yokohama Chinatown. This Chinatown is one of the biggest in the world. There are more than 500 restaurants and Chinese stores. Also there are two old Chinese Temples they are “Kuan Ti Miao Temple” and “Mazu Miao Temple”.
Must say this place really felt I’m a tourist again. So many people from the restaurants are trying to convince you to eat at their restaurant. But they are staying very polite and kind. So one of them convinced me to eat at their restaurant only the problem was they could not speak any word of English so I was most of the time talking with my hands and pointing at pictures. Nevertheless, I’ve gotten my food :p.
Best moment to take pictures is at night. The streets are filled with beautiful lights. When I was there the streets were also a bit wet from the rain but that makes it more special for the photo’s.
Fortunately Saturday it was finally a bit of a sunny day. So I went for a walk to Minato Mirai 21. This is a district near a harbor. There are many activities you can do. You can shop, eat, go on a ride or go on the water. I went on a bus-boat the “Sky Duck”. It is a sightseeing tour what goes by land and water. Too bad i didn’t understand a word of it. Everything was in Japanese. But it was fun to watch and when everyone was clapping or waving I just went along with the ride :).
I must say Yokohama is a fun place to go, unfortunately the weather was a bit rainy. I believe on more sunny days I would explore Yokohama more. But for the time being I saw many things and also had time just to relax.
For my next destination I will be staying there for a longer time. So for now, I hope you enjoyed Yokohama with me 🙂
